Back in 1990 when I was doing my rites of passage adventure in New Orleans the Guardian Angels were patrolling the riverwalk down at Jackson Square on a regular basis. I think they got started in NYC on the subways in the early 80s.

They seem to have an excellent track record, despite the obvious worries about what sort of meat-head vigilantes would want to dress up in a funny berets and patrol crime ridden areas.

They apparently have chapters on all continents except Africa and Antarctica: Gauardian Angels: Chapters.

The Guardian Angels have been swaggering about Shibuya pulling illegal posters off light poles since 1996.

They did seem to be out in force this weekend tho, saw them in Shibuya and Shinjuku.

Wow, when I was in Japan (1999) it felt so safe, that I can't imagine that these guys are required.Are things much worse now?

Dear god yes, you can barely walk down the street without being mugged at knifepoint nowadays. Things have changed what with the recession and all. Thank dog for the boys in red berets, otherwise we'd all have been raped and murdered and thrown into the river like a fiberglass Colonel Sanders by the Chinese.

If Eddie didn't step in, I guess you could easily mislead some of the people abroad into believing that crime in Japan is caused by the Chinese people. Now that you explained, you are goofing the government, but I (and probably some others?) didn't know that until you mentioned.

It seems Eddie realised he got a bit too anal (in which he did) therefore he's decided to remove the post. Good on him! But you've directed people over now.

Hi I find you by random on internet I've been Guardian Angels me too, but some years ago in Italy in Milan with T2 as chapter leader from Berlino .....Guardian Angels are great .....hey Shibuya I wish you good work!!!! Continue so' that good!
