Tokyo Tidbits

I will miss the views of Tokyo and it would be neat to see TT continue. Maybe the best way would be with multiple posters.

At the same time I really enjoy your use of the "alternate" input device and would love for you to continue to experiment. Hey, San Francisco is a very photograpic city.

You need to continue your adventure in SF. What makes TT unique is you. Letting several random people post to the most unique blog out there would never be the same. No one to date has been capable of having such an interesting and unique view of the world as you do. A simple name change I think would be the best solution. I am very confident that you can produce a blog in SF that is as good or better than TT. To many cool things to do in SF. you would always have a great and entertaining topic to show the viewers. You have built a pretty big fan base accross the world and we would all be pretty sad to see it all end. This is my opinion, but I am sure that the many Mie and TT fans out there would agree. You have become a pretty big star in the ever increasing blogging world.

Mie, change the banner to reflect the new venue, but keep the name. Bring TokyoTidbits to SF it's your life and you are continuing the journey. You can't abandon the past, its part of your on-going evolution.

Your friends will follow you to SF and will look forward to learning as much about this exciting and vibrant city, as you have imparted about Tokyo. And a large group will welcome you back to the US, waiting to see how you will celebrate the Bay area.

You've become an international celebrity, girl. Don't do anything that will rock the continuity.

I tend to agree with Chuck. Take it with you and keep the name. It is part of you and your life that has opened a window to many people from very different cultures (so different from here in the south of France). Why not continue TT from SF. A sort of view of American objects in a multicultural society through Japanese eyes if you will. However, it may be a pity for you personally not to get feed from Tokyo so that you can keep in touch with that part of the world on a daily(ish) basis.

Mie, I enjoy catching personal glimpses of Tokyo, and would love to see the site continue with another person's (or multuple people's) perspectives.

At the same time, it would be a shame for your voice to drop off the interweb. I'd suggest handing TT over to new caretakers, you retaining the ability to post to TT, to continue to add your perspective, and have TT prominently link to your new website that will continue to chronicle your experiences (Mie's Musings? Mie's Mumblings? San Francisco Snapshots?)

I'm with most of the others on this. I came to the site out of a love of all things Tokyo related. I would love to see that continue but I have also come to love YOUR own perspective on things. Please keep on with you blogging, we need those snap shots of all that great food (i'm sure you will find just as much in SF to get us salavating).

Unless the Tokyo bloggers have some killer ap for your site, I would rather you just continue under the same URL, different scenery.

It's pretty obvious that you have something many writers would kill for --- a base of avid readers. No one is willing to give-up the insights and smiles that you share with us each week. Your fans have spoken loudly and clearly. BLOG ON!!

I agree with most of the other comments, please continue with your posting in SF. I feel like it was not really the place you are in that made TT special, but your perspective. In fact, it's probably more interesting and rich an experience to see what you might post after going back to SF, having been a visitor in Tokyo. Either way, the history you've accumulated is worth preserving and continuing with a San Francisco Tidbits.

I just always have to be the voice of dissent.

The English language Japan based blogs have a disproprtinate ammount of traffic. And that's simply because people are really really curious about Japan. Mie moblogs a snapshop of a summer matsuri, and at the other end of the world a kid in high-school sees it and feels that his dream of going to Japan is that much more possible, a little more realistic.

I love curiousity, it's what got my community college ass to Tokyo. And the relationship Japan bloggers have built with curious people around the world, it's kind of special.

So you can expect that your readership will dip when you can't provide that relationship. I think the folks who have gotten to know who you are, they'll stay. It's moved beyond curious about Japan, now, I'm afraid to say, we're curious about you Mie. And Wakame. And Katsuo.

But I think your new readership will die down a bit. People type "tokyo blog" into Google, not "Mie Kennedy." And that's OK.

As to the idea of handing it over. Any succesor to Tokyo Tidbits (I like to spell it out, I know I have the mind of a fourteen-year old, but the acronym TT never washed with me) run by not Mie would be Tokyo Tidbits in name only. You are Tokyo Tidbits.

Please continue TT I have been a regular for 3 reasons your everyday "mumblings", "weird and wacky tokyo" and especially your use of new technology in a foreign place that is leading and creating a new world-class wireless culture.

Please don't let this baby go! I like dropping in to see what 'new adventures' you are on. If you can, add a SF-dimension to this site. It'd be nice to see what's happening on the other side of the world for all of us in Tokyo.

As one who has made more moves across the Pacific than I care to remember, I have to say that you never know what the future will bring.
I hope you realize by the postings above, as well as those yet to come, and those felt but never said, that many, many people would miss you if you gave up your blog here.
Here are a few thoughts. Take them for what they are worth;

Even if you continue, things do not have to stay the same.

Even if you leave, you can always come back.

What are the connections between a geographical location and a metaphysical data stream?

Nothing much original to say, but like many above, I would sooner see TT in SF than TT with a different voice.

The only issue, I suppose, is whether you will have as much commuting time (train-time?) in SF to exercise your thumbs.

I think Mie's dad should take over TokyoTidbits until she gets back (I plan on having her back in Tokyo in 2005).

I come to tokyo tidbits cause I am desparately homesick for japan. I just love the quirky point of view that you bring to my favourite city in the world. You are tokyo tidbits, but tokyo tidbits is also tokyo. I would love to see your take on SanFran but I would hate to lose this link to I have found to tokyo. What a dilema. Perhaps a compromise? Allow tokyo tidbits to become some sort of communal blog whereby people can send in images and thoughts. Meanwhile create a sister site about SanFran that allows you to give your take on the world. You can maintain your link to tokyo that way too.
