bullet train

This is way early for me but I am attending a seminar in Niigata starting at 9. I am on MaxToki 305, leaving Tokyo @ 7:12 and arriving @ 8:37. Things have modernized since the first blue and white round-nosed shinkansen models...beginning with this route's name (MaxToki). The train's front is super sleek and mean looking and my car is double deck. 'Byuuun' as they say here instead of 'vroom'

I hope you take pix in Niigata, I have personal reasons to be interested in this city and it would be cool to see how it looks like :)

Wow! That one looks even better than the old Shinkansen!

When my mom visited, I sent her off at Kyoto Stn. and helped her put her bags back on the Nozomi (I guess it's an old model now) to Tokyo, but she kissed me so long the doors shut and I had to ride to Nagoya and then turn around. It was free.

I always thought that this shinkansen model was cute. It looks like a duck. :)

No pics of Niigata. Right from the station, I had to rush to a taxi and go straight to the seminar. Sorry! It was pretty though. Beautiful rice paddies and nice mountains. Well known for skiing and onsen.

Nils, that is too funny about getting stuck on the Shinkansen. They are always PERFECTLY on time...right down to the second so I wouldn't mess with them!

"so I wouldn't mess "

hahahahaha!! For some reason, I love this quote! Maybe, I'm in one of my funny moods today!

"so I wouldn't mess with them"

(sorry, didn't paste all)

The door actually closed right in front of my face. I always take the Hikari, so it was my first (and only time) on the Nozomi, but it seemed more cramped than the Hikari, because of the curved sides.

But what do you care, you're smooching your boyfriend. We know how much you love him, we read the email!!

Hey, that's the Eastern Japanese Railway company's type E4 shinkansen, nicknamed "duck" !

JR East's latest design, the type 700, nicknamed "platypus", isn't bad either...

...but 'm quite partial to JR West's (slightly older) type 500 Shinkansen:

For me, the king will always be the Nozomi. It was the latest and greatest when I lived in Japan, and although I never got on one, I always thought they were cool when they whooshed (byuuun'ed?) on by.
