Bionic Mom

My mom fell off a ladder last year and broke her leg very badly. She was in the hospital for 12 weeks (well, hospitalization is much longer in Japan than in the U.S.) and had titanium screws, bolts, and plates put in her leg. 2 days ago she had an operation to take some of it out. She's fine and I couldn't believe she was already up walking the next day! She gets to keep what they took out and I was surprised to find the titanium to be a very beautiful blue. And they sure kept my mom's leg together. I am amazed at what medicine can do now...

Mie - Glad to hear your Mom is doing well. Having also broken my leg (ankle actually – snowboarding in Japan) a couple years back I can appreciate your family’s relief. The removal of the Titanium for me marked the end of a long and strenuous rehab process that 直子さん and I were happy to put behind us.

I have just returned home, jetlagged, to NYC following a successful Tokyo (大手町) business trip. One night while there, I was blessed to have my wife’s parents and my brother-in-law join me at the hotel for dinner (帝国ホテルの鉄板焼きKamon). It is always great to see them, but more so because my father (70) was recently released from the hospital (now 110% better) after a sudden and unexplained bout of vertigo (目まい). It is so difficult living as far away as ニューヨーク when family in 東京 is ill. I envy your situation of being nearby home.

Take care,
ジョージ

...one last thing...

I was glad to have visited 東京 after the "pretty big earthquake" (actually VERY big - Level 4+ on the Japanese scale) and large aftershock @ 1am 12May. It was certainly the talk of the office when I arrived on Tuesday morning.

Now even happier to have learned I left hours before the "freaky earthquake" on Saturday 17May.

Pull together an emergency kit today !

ジョージさん、glad you had a good time in Tokyo. 懐かしいでしょう。I have been thinking of stocking up on canned food...both for myself and for my little tigers : )

Eddie, arigato! I'm glad all went well although I'm still amazed.

I still have some impressive Titanium in my leg. I'll show you the pics on my phone next time.

Best wishes to your mum..
