Tokyo Tidbits

Hello,
I just had a quick question for you. I'm moving to Tokyo (Hachioji) in about four months. I'm definately going to get a cell phone once there, but I thought I would also get a digital camera, because I want to take so many pictures. Well it seems (from your website) that the phones do a great job of taking pics. Should I not get a digital camera and get a more expensive phone. Some questions are, are the pics easy to load on a computer? How many pics can a phone hold? Is this service expensive over there? Price for a good phone? Thanks for any info. Cheers from Chicago!

Ooo. What fun you are in for...although Hachioji is far away. Hey, Kojo-san (DJ SpaceWalker) lives there and does local gigs from time to time. About the phone, heck, they will probably have a whole new generation of phones by the time you get here. I heard that the newer phones have much better quality. But my phone does not have a flash or zoom so it all depends on what ya wanna do. My phone can send 5 pics per email. Dav, my love in SF, is the one who set it up so emails would automatically load to my site. But if you can also easily download pics to your pc directly. Price...it really depends on which company and how you use it. They offer hundreds of plans so you can try em out and adjust to your needs.

The best advice I can give you is find a local phone shop person who will be your on-going help. Mine is practically next door and any time I have questions, I hop in and ask. At least that works for me.

DoCoMo are about to release new mobile phones (505) that houses a 1.23 Mega Pixel sensor!! Thats the same as a Sony CyberShot U10!!

But digi-cams are digicams and mobiles are mobiles! Never expect too much from a mobile in terms of photo quality! Mobiles are more for farting around.

I say, get a decent mobile phone. Its something you carry daily so you will not miss a thing (to photo). Get a good digicam and use that for more special occasions (like going to Disney Sea).

Oh, by the way, I seriously doubt you wanna upload pics via your mobile (unless you are moblogging, of course).

You can get a software package that contains software and cable so you can download your pics from your phone directly to your computer.

Imagine the price of sending 5x 1.23mp pics via a mobile phone!! Man, sky high monthly fees!
