Earthquake
Those in Tokyo...did ya feel that? I'm working on the 21st floor and the building swayed. Oi...don't wanna be up here in a big one.
In my office we work in individual offices. We all came out to the reception area discussing how we're normally supposed to have helmets at our desks, an emergency pack with food and water, and that we should bring sneakers to work in case we have to walk home.
So easy to forget that the big one is due (they've been saying that since I was a kid though)...and I don't think Tokyo is anywhere near ready. On the other hand, it's so crowded here, what can they really do anyway?
I just had a horrible thought. If I get stuck somewhere under a building, but systems are still up (since this is on Dav's server in SF), technically, I could keep posting and communicating to you from under the building. Eeeeew. I'm NOT gonna think about that possibility.

It's really kewl to be posting comments on your site about an event that happened like 10 minutes ago. I experienced a pretty big jishin in L.A., but forgot about them while in HI. Reminder of Mother Nature's a powerful force.
I was thinking about that too after the quake. Won't that be crazy when the big one hits...everyones's posting the disaster from their phones to the web...too insane.
Posted by: Ian at March 13, 2003 03:20 PMJapan is earthquake country and it's amazing how easily we trick ourselves in forgetting about that. And when you feel the movement, at least for me, I stand there immobile assessing - do I scramble under my desk or just ride it out...?
Although it's spooky to think of everyone blogging during a disaster, people could get saved that way...and at least keep their sanity if they're trapped. Surf the net, write a chapter of a book, who knows? But still, I don't need no shakin'...
Posted by: Mie at March 13, 2003 06:27 PMI recall on my 1st visit to Japan that there was a slight rumble a few days after arriving, maybe and aftershock or just a little quake however, it started out exactly like the Northridge quake in California (the only quake I've not slept through). Needless to say, it freaked me out but it was over in 15 seconds or so. The whole situation with all those plates converging under Japan is the number 1 reason you will never catch me shopping at a B3 center ;)
