run in the neighborhood II

I spotted someone preparing for Setsubun no hi (special day to get rid of the bad devil and bring in good luck; this link explains it pretty well - http://www2.gol.com/users/stever/setsubun.htm ). You need a devil mask and a good luck mask (to be played by family members in the ritual on February 3rd), but I guess Mr. Snowman is extending his work season and filling in for the devil too.

I've always wondered who drives these cars. Is it a couple? Does the husband drive the sports car and his wife go shopping in the tiny one? Or, if we use traditional color codes, does the wife zip around in the hot red one while her husband uses the blue one for practical errands on the weekends?

Ohayo Mie-san!

Hi! I enjoy your page but I would like to know about yourself if you don't mind. You mention CA a lot so I wonder about your life story.

Keep up the good work,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Arigato! Thanks for the comment...it inspires me!
I agree, I've been quite tardy about updating the 'About' section. I promise to get more info. in there shortly and I'm hoping to scan in some photos from my pre-cell phone days.

Are you in CA? I was living in SF until last year. Love the Bay Area (as you already noted) and basically spent the last 10 years on the West coast, although I was born in NY and grew up in Tokyo.

I'll list my time line...yakusoku shimasu.

Hi Mie,

Enjoying the site from Los Angeles, found my way here from Hunkabutta. I used to live up in the San Francisco area myself (South Bay--Mountain View), also by way of the east coast (Pennsylvania). Haven't made it to Japan yet, but my dojo is a little slice of old times (http://aikidocenterla.com).

Regards,

no wonder the japanese are all skin and bones! with tiny autos like that, who would be able to eat more than a handful of fish flakes for a day? i keep picturing those little things on a massive roundabout, trapped like a carousel. does anyone have sedans?

Ohayo Mie-san,

No I do not live in California. I wish though with the cold weather that we get here in Minnesota.

I will tell you a little bit about myself. I am an american married to a Japanese national. So I find your perspective on things in Japan interesting having been born in the US and now living there in Japan. Somaday, maybe soon I will move back to Osaka with me wife to live as soon as I finish my computer degree. So keep up the great work!

I love your site and arigato gozaimashita!

Hi Mie,

Like many others, found your site through Hunkabutta. It is fascinating to me to be able to
read and see blogs from Japan as I went to high school in Japan, and then later spent another 3 years there in the Navy. I'm sure I'll be another fan.

Hi Everyone,

What a pleasure to get your comments! From different places and different backgrounds. Glad my pics can offer a bit of home for some of you and that my perspective as a ...hmmm...I always wonder how to define myself. I'm called 'half' here, but I don't really identify with that. But anyway, I enjoy hearing what you think!
